Low temperatures, high humidity, slippery surfaces, extra clothing that reduces mobility and reaction – factors that significantly increase the risk of injury to workers, including frostbite, falls while moving, injuries due to falling from the roof of icicles or snow and more.
Therefore, employers should take all possible
measures to prevent injuries, including:
ensuring the formation of pedestrian paths, driveways and parking lots on the territory of enterprises, institutions and organizations. In the presence of a snow cover timely carrying out works on cleaning and sprinkling with the substances preventing sliding during ice;
safe and timely organization of works on cleaning of snow and ice formations from roofs of buildings and constructions, at impossibility of carrying out the specified works of exclusion of access of workers to dangerous sites;
organization of measures to preserve heat in industrial premises in order to comply with current sanitary norms;
providing employees with the necessary
providing a break for heating and rest, and in certain adverse weather conditions and completely stop working outside; warm overalls and other personal protective equipment;
carrying out of explanatory work on safety and personal attention with employees during movement on the territory of the enterprise and the city in connection with performance of functional duties on the approved route, separately with drivers of vehicles, concerning special vigilance in difficult winter weather conditions;
cars, tractors and other self-propelled machines intended for use in winter conditions must have an insulated cab, a working heating system and be equipped with a system to start the engine from the cab. At least two drivers must be sent at the same time to perform work far from settlements and roads at temperatures below -20 ° С, as well as during blizzards and snowfalls. Vehicles must be fully refueled before departure;
taking into account the specific working conditions (sparsely populated areas, bad weather and road conditions) workers must be trained in first aid techniques.
