How do I know that the Occupational Health and safety management system is working?
There are two ways to measure the effectiveness of an occupational health and safety management system.
1.Reactive monitoring (indicators of what has already happened. In organizations used most often) means detecting and reporting incidents (pre-emergency and actual incidents), as well as learning from mistakes. This indicator shows whether the desired security result was achieved or not
Main drawback: it doesn’t allow you to assess the level of security in your organization
2. Active monitoring (proactive proactive indicators) provides feedback on the effectiveness of the QMS before an accident or incident occurs. Proactive metrics are a form of active monitoring and are used as input data necessary to achieve the desired security results
Key advantage: allows managers to take proactive corrective actions before the system collapses to a level where disaster is almost inevitable
