Protection against optical and acoustic radiation during arc welding

The results of studies of the propagation of ultraviolet radiation and noise during at non-stationary arc welding workplaces

The results of studies of optical and acoustic radiation levels created during electric arc welding, and measures and means of protection against it for support and surrounding staff at non-stationary workplaces are presented. The regularities of spatial distribution of these dangerous factors and their zones of action are determined. It is established that ultraviolet radiation levels significantly exceed the normative requirements in the most dangerous (shortwave) range at considerable distances from the place of welding, which creates a danger for people not involved in the welding process and thus not protected by personal protective equipment. It is shown that noise levels of the arc for different types of arc welding slightly exceed allowable values. The technical requirements for means of protection against optical radiation are scientifically substantiated. A mobile protective screen is proposed for protection against the harmful effects of optical radiation.

For scientific and technical staff engaged in the development of welding technologies, occupational safety and health in welding industries, students and postgraduate students of higher education institutions.
